Haystack and Penland. Deann studied and completed an apprenticeship

with the tapestry artist Muriel Nezhnie Helfman.  She has taken workshops with Silvia Heyden, Kate Anderson, Diane Itter, Archie Brennan, Marcel Marois, Renie Breskin-Adams, Jane Sauer and Jason Pollen.

 

She has drawn all her life. Her art, in many mediums, uses color, texture and pattern Deann’s work as a graphic designer and illustrator includes a fashion shoe company, a novelty and tourist item company, and a cultural department for a city. She has been a floral exhibitor in Art in Bloom at the Museum of Fine Art in Boston and decorated holiday interiors for the historic Hosmer Hous in Sudbury, Massachusetts. Deann painted a cake for STL "Cakeway to the West".

    

Known as a fiber artist, Deann has exhibited her handwoven tapestries nationally and internationally, including St. Petersburg, Russia, Australia

and Canada. Her tapestries were just exhibited in a sole exhibit at Craft Alliance Gallery. She also has shown her tapestries at the Jacoby ArtCenter in Alton, Illinois in connection with “Innovations in Textiles”, a St. Louis area fiber event. She has been seen on Channel 9 television in St. Louis and her work has shown in many professional magazines, newspapers and Fiberarts Design books.  

 

She has won several awards and honors for both her tapestries and graphic design (including a T.V. commercial). She was one of five finalist for her painting in a "Shock Top" Beer juried competition. She has been an artist-in-residence, juror, lecturer. She curated the exhibition “Matters at Hand: Contemporary Narrative Tapestry” at Craft Alliance Gallery

in University City, Missouri.

 

Deann Rubin is a native St. Louisian who has moved back to St. Louis after having been gone for over seventeen years. She has lived in Silcon Valley, California, the Dallas, Texas area and twice in the Boston, Massachusetts area.

 

She was the editor of the ITNET Journal, an international tapestry organization, for two years,  Past-President of both Tapestry Weavers West, a San Francisco Bay area tapestry artists association and Missouri Fiber Artists, a statewide fiber organization. 

 

Deann Rubin holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in Design from The University of Kansas 

in Lawrence, Kansas. Later, she received two-year certificates in computer graphics and

illustration from Collin County Community College in Plano, Texas. She has taken classes 

at Chelsa College and St. Martins in London, England and fine craft workshops at
